The UNESCO Chair in Community Based Research & Social Responsibility in Higher Education is pleased to present the Manual on ‘Training the Next Generation of Community Based Researchers’. This is one of the publications under the project on ‘Building the Next Generation of Community Based Researchers’, sponsored by SSHRC, Canada. You access the full text of the manual at: https://unescochair-cbrsr.org/pdf/FINAL_Training_the_Next_Generation_2016.pdf.

This guide for trainers helps demystify the core tenets of CBR to aid in the teaching of CBR to the next generation of community based researchers. It also presents the key findings of the global study on ‘Building the Next Generation of Community-based Researchers (The NextGen Project)’ conducted by the UNESCO Chair. These findings have helped formulate five pedagogical principles to underpin the teaching of CBR and need to be included in future training of community based researchers around the world.

This manual will be useful for all those providing learning opportunities in universities, civil society organizations or social movements for persons to learn to do CBR.

It is a companion publication to the book titled, ‘Knowledge and Engagement: Building Capacity for the Next Generation of Community Based Researchers’, also published under the aegis of the NextGen Project of the UNESCO Chair. Please watch this space for the online version of the book, which will be available soon.
