Walter Lepore, UNESCO Chair project coordinator, will participate in the Educational Developers’ Caucus Conference (EDC) 2018, Educational Developers Gaining an Edge, from February 14 to 16, 2018 at the University of Victoria, Canada. This is an event for educational developers to position themselves on the edge of their work to investigate and share their stories of success and failure. Walter will deliver a presentation titled ‘Addressing the UN Sustainable Development Goals through teaching and learning community-based research (CBR): the case of the Knowledge for Change Consortium (K4C) and its Mentor Training Program’. He will discuss the creation of K4C, an initiative of the UNESCO Chair CBR-SR, as a decentralized training structure for building a new generation of community-based researchers and practitioners. The K4C Consortium is aimed at expanding individual and institutional research training capacities, and building and mobilizing new knowledge on the processes of participatory research and community-university engagement and the pedagogies of training CBR in diverse cultural contexts. Based on a continuous iterative process of community-university engagement and mutual learning, we draw on individual/institutional skill sets to work towards a collective vision of research and education goals, competencies and general professional skills applicable to a variety of settings and disciplines.
