Prof Marja-Liisa Swantz is a Finish scholar who lived and worked in Tanzania during the 1960s and 70s. Her work with women in Coast Tanzania during the late 1960s was one of the foundations of the approach to research and development that later became known as participatory research. Prof Swantz has written many books on her work in Tanzania, went on to form a European participatory research network and published her most recent book in 2016. Dr Budd Hall will present Prof. Swantz with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the UNESCO Chair.
