Responsible Research And Innovation Networking Globally (RRING)
While scientific research and technological innovation have significantly contributed to human progress, they have also highlighted a growing disconnect between scientific advancements and societal needs. A step to address this gap has been the promotion of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI).
The Responsible Research and Innovation Networking Globally (RRING) project is an international initiative funded by the European Union under the Horizon 2020 Programme, launched in 2018 to advance the principles of RRI on a global scale. The project advocates for the integration of science and local knowledge systems to foster a bottom-up and inclusive approach to science. It also aligns the principles of RRI with the Sustainable Development Goals, using them as a common framework to promote an equitable, and socially beneficial scientific advancement.
As the host of the UNESCO Chair in Community-Based Research & Social Responsibility in Higher Education, co-chaired by Dr. Rajesh Tandon (Founder-President, PRIA) and Dr. Budd Hall (University of Victoria), PRIA has been at the forefront of advancing Open Science, knowledge democracy, and community engaged research. PRIA joined the RRING team in 2018 as the sub-contractor for India, where it played a key role in facilitating national discussions on the understanding and implementation of Responsible Research and Innovation.
