“Introduction to UNESCO Open Science Framework” workshop web-series was organized by the UNESCO Chair in Community-Based Research and Social Responsibility, in partnership with DST-CPR IISc Bengaluru and Open Science South Asia from April 1st to April 5th, 2024.

Over five enlightening days, from exploring research ethics, open data infrastructure to engaging with indigenous knowledge and societal actors, the workshop fostered a vibrant exchange of ideas.

Here’s a glimpse into the highlights:

Day 1: Introduction to the UNESCO Open Science Framework, by Dr. Ai Suguira, Programme Specialist (Natural Sciences), UNESCO Beijing. The workshop welcomed participants to a vibrant discussion on the pillars of Open Science, paving the way for inclusive knowledge systems.

Day 2: Unpacking Open Infrastructures, Dr Francis Jayakanth, Senior Scientific Office at IISc Bengaluru, discussed the importance of open data institutional repositories. While Prof Hemant Kumar, Assistant Professor at Central University Gujarat, took a deep dive into Open Innovation from an Indian perspective.

Day 3: Suryesh K Namdeo, PhD (Scientist at DST-CPR IISc Bengaluru) and Prof. VV Binoy (Associate Professor, National Institute of Advanced Studies) delved into the realm of open engagement and societal actors, fostering discussions on Citizen Science.

Day 4: Engaged learning continued with Rajesh Tandon (UNESCO Co-Chair in CBRSR) and Vijayalakshmi Asthana, PhD (Principal Scientist, CSIR- Traditional Knowledge Digital Library) exploring the dynamics of indigenous knowledge and knowledge democracy.

Day 5: Dr. Moumita Koley, PhD (DST-CPR IISc Bengaluru) and Ms. Remya Haridasan (Scientist D, Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India) shed light on the essence of Open Scientific Knowledge, emphasizing research ethics research integrity and discussed government policies on open access and scientific cooperation.

The workshop was facilitated and moderated by Dr Pragya Chaube, India Coordinator to the UNESCO Chair in CBRSR!
